Indy Man Rescues Infants Abandoned in Winter Cold

A few mornings ago, Indianapolis resident Robert Deane was out to pick up his mail when he noticed something unusual. Lying in a nearby ditch were two car seats with two tiny babies inside – a 4-month-old and a 5-month-old, both girls and cousins. He quickly grabbed the car seats, brought them inside his warm home, and dialed 911. Little did Deane know, these babies were kidnapped when their family car was stolen just before dawn. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) had started a search for the missing car and babies when Deane made his call.

They found the abandoned stolen car just minutes after the Good Samaritan's discovery. The infants were left alone in the below-freezing temperatures, with the mystery lingering on how long they were outside and why they were in the back seat unchecked. The IMPD praised Deane’s quick thinking and actions, reminding parents to always watch their kids closely, even in winter when cars are left running to get warm. This isn’t the first such incident this month; just two weeks ago, a baby boy was taken when a car was stolen from a gas station.
