Investigating Jeju Air Crash: Black Box Heads to the US

After a devastating crash that claimed 179 lives, investigators in South Korea have decided to send one of the plane's black boxes to the United States for further analysis. The Jeju Air flight was carrying 181 people when it made an emergency landing, hit a barrier, and burst into flames. Only two flight attendants survived. Investigators from both South Korea and the US, including representatives from Boeing, have been working at the crash site in Muan since Sunday.

The flight data recorder, which was badly damaged, can't be analyzed in South Korea. “We’ve agreed to send it to the US for analysis, ” said Joo Jong-wan, the deputy minister for civil aviation. The cockpit voice recorder, however, has already been analyzed domestically. Understanding what went wrong is crucial.
