Iran Calls for Action After Power Plant Attacks
Iran’s nuclear chief addressed the director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in a letter demanding decisive action following repeated attacks on its sole operational nuclear power plant, Bushehr.
Four Attacks Recorded
The Bushehr facility has been struck four times, most recently on April 4 when a guard was killed and several others wounded.Risk of Radioactive Spill
The letter warns that further strikes could release radioactive material, endangering local populations, the environment, and neighboring countries.
Violation of International Law
The chief labeled these incidents as breaches of international law and criticized the IAEA’s limited response.Call for Decisive Measures
He argued that inaction could embolden further aggression against nuclear sites worldwide.
The correspondence, sent from Dubai, reflects Iran’s frustration with what it perceives as the UN nuclear watchdog’s insufficient protection of its facilities. Iran insists that stronger safeguards are essential to prevent catastrophic outcomes.
