Is A Credit Union The Right Move For East Ascension High School?

A debate is brewing in Ascension Parish. Officials in Ascension Public Schools want financial literacy in their school curriculum. They want to bring a credit union to East Ascension High school. The idea of financial literacy sounds good. But how far money handling skills will go is uncertain. But it's not clear if a credit union is the best way to address this. Other schools near Ascension Parish, like Walker High School, have seen good results from having their own credit union. They want students prepared for future money matters. But then what makes East Ascension think this shall work for them. What’s more, Walker High started their credit union back in 2010—over a decade ago and in this time, the number of student complaints is very low. There's more than a few parents, students, and teachers saying other ways to boost financial literacy shall work best. But the Louisiana attempt to bring up financial handling skill have not been a big hit—so no one knows what will work best. Students, teachers, and parents all have different ideas

And frankly, the debate is not just about whether a credit union can help students. After all, East Ascension hoped that having credit union voices will cultivate finances. A closer look into financial literacy classes, needs to be looked into. But opinions from both sides are having big impact the debate on how to best prepare students for the future. However, other schools like Walker High, state having different financial institutions on campus has proven successful. It’s tricky. It’s clear that everyone wants to help students in the future that's why everyone’s ears are wide open to see what Officer Jeff Landry says. He's in charge of school guidance. Ascension wants more institutions for students to stand up with money their future. They also need to take around the law and make sure they are not breaking the rules with their plans. This will take a longer time to get the approval. The East Ascension credit union idea has a strong voice. But can this move be outside highschool box?
