Is Your Stress Gene Shortening Your Cell Lifespan?
Monday, January 27, 2025
What they found was interesting. People with the TT genotype had shorter telomeres in a specific type of blood cell compared to those with a different genotype. This could mean these cells age faster. However, unlike what some past studies suggested, these people didn't have higher cortisol levels or show a clear link between cortisol and telomere length.
This study is one of the first to show that the GABRA6 TT genotype might speed up cellular aging, but it's not clear how stress hormones play into this. It seems there might be other factors at work.
