Jamaica Travel Alert: Know the Risks Before You Go
Jamaica is a beautiful place. But the U. S. State Department has some serious advice for travelers. They say to be extra careful. Why? Because crime, health issues, and natural disasters are real problems there.
Recent Changes and Ongoing Risks
The travel advisory for Jamaica was recently lowered. But don’t let that fool you. The risks haven’t actually changed. Violent crime is still a big concern. This includes:

Natural Disasters and Infrastructure Challenges
Hurricane Melissa hit Jamaica hard last year. The damage is still visible, especially in the western part of the island. Travelers should be aware that medical and law enforcement help might not be as quick or easy to get as in the U. S.
High-Risk Areas: Level 4: Do Not Travel
Some areas in Jamaica are super dangerous. The State Department has marked them as Level 4: Do Not Travel. U. S. government employees are not allowed to visit these places. It’s a good idea for regular travelers to avoid them too.
Areas to Avoid

- Cassava Piece
