Jay-Z and Wharton Team Up to Teach HBCU Students Money Skills

Rapper Jay-Z and his mother, Gloria Carter, have been working through their Shawn Carter Foundation to support Black communities for years. Now, they're focusing on financial literacy for students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Partnering with the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, they're bringing a program called Champions for Financial Legacy to these institutions. The main goal? To give students the know-how to manage credit, debt, and investing. The program is a big deal because Black families often have less wealth than white families. This makes it tough for students to pay for college and start their careers on solid ground. The Shawn Carter Foundation and Wharton want to change that. They're starting with Lincoln University in Missouri and Norfolk State University and Virginia State University in Virginia. The plan is to expand to other HBCUs too.

Toyota is also on board, supporting the program along with Wharton's Coalition for Equity and Opportunity. It's not just about classroom learning. Students will get online resources, workshops, and mentors to help them apply what they learn in real life. The idea is to make sure HBCU students can build wealth and bring that knowledge back to their communities. Financial literacy is super important these days. College is expensive, and many students are struggling with debt. Programs like this one can make a real difference. They can help students manage their money better and find success after graduation.
