Jeff Bezos: Earth's Better, Except for Nature

Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, has a clear view: life on Earth has improved in many ways over the past 50 years. Things like infant deaths, global literacy, and poverty rates have all gone down. But there's a big exception: the natural world. It's been hurt by pollution and overuse. Amazon, Bezos' company, plays a part in this. It put out 70. 74 million metric tons of carbon dioxide in 2022, which is a lot. But Amazon is trying to change. It's aiming to cut its carbon emissions to zero by 2040.

Bezos isn't alone in thinking life is better now. The late investor Charlie Munger said something similar. He saw lots of improvements in his 98 years. Bezos is hopeful about the future too. He thinks space exploration could help solve Earth's problems. His company, Blue Origin, is working on rockets and spacecraft. They've already sent people to space nine times. Bezos wants to make space a place where we can get unlimited energy and materials. But he's clear: we need to save Earth. It's the best planet we've got.
