John Prescott: A Life Dedicated to Social Justice
Hull, United KingdomThursday, November 21, 2024
Prescott was known for his pugnacious nature, as displayed in a famous incident during the 2001 general election when he punched a man who threw an egg at him. While this incident temporarily caused concern, it ultimately strengthened his folksy image.
Despite the shift in the Labour Party's politics under Blair, Prescott remained a proud working-class figure. He was nicknamed "Two Jags" for his appreciation of luxury cars and "Two Jabs" for the egg incident. After leaving office, Prescott continued to serve in Parliament's House of Lords.
Former Labour Prime Minister Gordon Brown praised Prescott as a true working-class hero. He emphasized Prescott's belief that everyone should have the opportunity to achieve their potential through hard work.
