Judge Steps into VR for Courtroom Crime Scene Tour
Florida, USASaturday, January 4, 2025
In the case of Miguel Albisu, who is on trial for aggravated assault, the defense team used an Oculus Quest 2 VR headset to show the judge the wedding reception from Albisu's point of view. Albisu claims he was acting in self-defense when he waved a gun at guests in 2023. The defense expert, Bill Engler, even demonstrated the alleged crime scene during the hearing.
Attorney Ken Padowitz thinks this might be a first in the U. S. He said, "We showed the judge a computer animation and then used virtual reality to make it even more real. " This technology could change how cases are presented in court.
The case will continue in February, and if the judge likes what he sees, a jury might get to experience VR too. But before that happens, there will be some court debates about whether this tech is fair and accurate.
