Just How Much Are Houthis Earning from Ship Threats?
Red SeaThursday, November 7, 2024
Since November 2023, the Houthis have been using drones, missiles, and watercraft to attack ships. This route is vital because it connects Asia, the Mediterranean, and the east coast of North America. It's also a gateway to the Suez Canal and the Gulf of Aden. These attacks have been deadly, resulting in four deaths and two ships being sunk.
The Houthis claim they're only targeting ships linked to Israel. However, the study found that they've also attacked vessels from countries backing them, such as Iran. This raises the question: Is this all about politics or just plain extortion?
