Keeping the Caregivers: What's the Deal?
Tuesday, March 11, 2025
The COVID-19 pandemic made things worse. Long-term care facilities were hit hard. Staff members had to deal with increased workloads, personal protective equipment (PPE) shortages, and the risk of infection. Many left the field because of this.
So, what can be done? One solution is to improve working conditions. This could mean better pay, more training, and better support for staff. Another solution is to change the way we think about long-term care. We need to recognize the value of the work that PSWs and nurses do. This could make the job more appealing to new workers.
But there's more to it than that. We need to think about the bigger picture. Long-term care is a growing field. As the population ages, more people will need care. This means we need more workers. We need to find ways to make the job more attractive. We need to invest in training and support. We need to create a culture of respect and appreciation. This will help us keep the caregivers we have and attract new ones.
