Keeping Up with E-Bikes: Seven Hills Mayor Seeks Safer Streets
In Seven Hills, Ohio, the mayor is taking a stand on e-bikes. With more and more of these electric bikes zipping around, Mayor Anthony D. Biasiotta thinks it's time to update the rules. He wants to make sure everyone stays safe, especially since e-bikes have changed a lot over the years.
City Council to Consider Major Changes
The city council is set to look into this soon. They're considering some big changes:
- Helmets might become mandatory for all e-bike riders.
- Class 3 e-bikes (faster models) might need speedometers.
- Lights and reflectors could be required for riding in the dark.
Motorized Bikes Banned from Trails and Sidewalks
Mayor Biasiotta also wants to ensure e-bike motors aren't used on trails or sidewalks. He believes these paths are for regular bikes and pedestrians, not motorized vehicles. While there haven't been any serious incidents, residents have reported some close calls.
Rules Expected by Spring
The mayor hopes these new rules will be ready by spring, just in time for people to start using their e-bikes again after winter. The police chief is on board too, saying it's a good way to prevent future problems.
Why the Sudden Push?
E-bikes are becoming more popular and are now faster and more powerful than before. Updating the rules ensures safety keeps up with these changes.
