St. Charles students are invited to draw or create a digital design for reusable water bottles that will be handed out at the local Scarecrow Weekend festival. The community group plans to give away 1, 600 bottles, each featuring the winning artwork, between October 9 and 11. Students can download a bottle template from the alliance’s website and must submit entries by August 21. The chosen artist will be announced on August 25 and receive recognition at the festival.

Construction crews will begin repairing Route 59 from McCoy Drive to Artesian Road on July 13, a $4. 6 million effort that will last until November. The project includes resurfacing and new ADA‑compliant sidewalks, but it will cause lane closures during the day. Drivers are advised to allow extra travel time or take alternate routes.

On September 10, golfers at Hughes Creek Golf Course in Elburn will raise money for the Kane Forest Preserve Foundation. The outing starts at 10 a. m. , includes breakfast, an 18‑hole round, lunch and a steak dinner, and offers contests with prizes. A hole‑in‑one could win a car from Bob Jass Chevrolet, and all proceeds will fund the final phase of a nature play space in St. Charles. Registration is limited; teams can sign up online.
