Kim Says Russia Is North Korea’s Biggest Ally
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un sent a note to Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday, celebrating the day Russia remembers its World War II victory.
In his message, Kim stressed that North Korea’s friendship with Russia is the most important thing for the country. He said his nation will follow every rule in their defense agreement.
Earlier this year, Russia and North Korea signed a new “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership” treaty while Putin visited Pyongyang.
The deal contains a clause that both sides will help each other if one is attacked.
North Korea has also sent about 14,000 soldiers to fight beside Russian troops in the Ukrainian war. Reports from outside North Korea say those fighters suffered many losses, with more than 6,000 killed in battle.
Russia’s big Victory Day parade this year is smaller than usual.
The military worries about possible attacks from Ukraine, which has been fighting Russia for more than four years.
On Friday, Russia and Ukraine agreed to a short pause in fighting.
The ceasefire lasts from May 9 to May 11, as announced by former U.S. President Donald Trump.
