Knoxville Smokies Fall 3‑1 to Montgomery Biscuits
The Knoxville Smokies returned to Covenant Health Park on Tuesday but struggled to get their offense going, losing 3‑1 in the first of a six‑game series against the Montgomery Biscuits.
- Yenrri Rojas opened for Knoxville, surrendering six hits and three runs over five innings. He struck out four but walked none.
- Montgomery scored first in the second inning on a fielder’s choice, then added a home run from Kenny Piper to lead 2‑0. A third run followed in the next inning.
- In the fifth, right fielder Jordan Nwogu grounded into a fielder’s choice and was replaced by Ed Howard at shortstop. The lineup shifted: Karson Simas moved to center, and Alex Ramirez took right field.
- Howard and Edgar Alvarez each hit a two‑out double in the seventh, producing Knoxville’s only run. Alvarez also drew an earlier walk, making him the sole player to reach base twice.
- Jace Beck relieved Rojas, striking out seven over three innings and keeping Montgomery’s offense in check.
After the loss, Knoxville sits 21‑19 in the Southern League North. Montgomery remains tied with them at 21‑19.
The series continues through Thursday, offering fans promotions such as all‑you‑can‑eat buffets, themed nights, and a special bobblehead giveaway.
