La Grange’s Month of Magic: Fun for Everyone this Holiday Season

Get ready, La Grange! The annual Hometown Holidays event kicks off on November 30, bringing a whole month of festive activities to the town. Organized by the La Grange Business Association and the village, this year’s celebration is set to be even more exciting. The festivities start with the Small Business Saturday Flash Sale, where local shops will offer amazing deals from 10 a. m. to 3 p. m. The event director, Dan Mulka, wants to keep the tradition alive and make it even better each year. “It’s all about the holiday magic for kids and families, ” he says. Mark your calendars for December 7, when the 33rd Annual La Grange Holiday Walk begins. At 4 p. m. , people gather at Village Hall to enjoy choirs and themed characters before Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive at 5 p. m. via fire engine to light the village Christmas tree. New this year, a trolley will help shoppers explore the downtown business district and the West End area from 11 a. m. to 4 p. m.

There’s plenty to do that night: a petting zoo, pony rides, kiddie train rides, and stunning light displays. Plus, enjoy ice sculptures throughout the downtown area and open houses at several businesses. Starting December 1, the “Twelve Days of Holiday Joy” promo brings Santa and Mrs. Claus to retail shops, with profile videos posted for 12 days straight. And from November 30, restaurants will serve classic holiday cocktails. Don’t forget to snap photos at the special “selfie” spots around town! This year also marks the 150th anniversary of the historic Vial House. While a big celebration is planned for spring 2025, the La Grange Area Historical Society is giving the house a fresh coat of paint. They’re also hosting a big open house on December 8, with decorations, refreshments, and a bake sale. Plus, on December 15, they’ll offer a “Holiday Sips and Sweets Tour” in historic homes.
