Lessons Democrats Must Learn from the 2024 Election
USATuesday, November 26, 2024
Trump's base has expanded, too. He's made gains in major cities, Native American reservations, and heavily Latino communities. Even in traditionally liberal areas, Trump showed improvement. This includes cities like Philadelphia, Detroit, and affluent suburbs like Loudoun County, Virginia.
Immigration policies are also a surprising area of change. Democrats assumed that Latinos and immigrants would vote against restrictive policies. However, Trump had his best-ever performance among Latinos and made gains among Asian Americans and in immigrant communities.
Lastly, the idea that the Electoral College is biased against Democrats took a hit. Trump won both the Electoral College and the popular vote this time around. This challenges the notion that large blue states like California and New York are underrepresented compared to small red states.
