A New Contender in the Lifestyle TV Market

LG has unveiled a new TV that aims to rival Samsung's popular The Frame series. This new model is part of LG's Gallery lineup, distinct from their G-series OLEDs. The announcement came shortly after the release of LG's MRGB95 range, which boasts new Micro RGB Evo panel technology.

Design and Features

The Gallery TV will be available in 55- and 65-inch sizes. It offers a white frame or an optional lightwood cover, catering to consumers who want a TV that blends seamlessly with their home decor. However, unlike some of LG's other high-end models, this TV uses LCD with Mini LED backlight rather than the more advanced Micro RGB or OLED technology.

Performance and Technology

Powered by LG's Alpha 7 AI processor, typically found in entry-level and mid-range sets, the Gallery TV is positioned more as a lifestyle device than a high-performance one. LG is highlighting its Gallery+ feature as a key selling point. This service provides free access to 100 pieces of artwork per month or a paid tier with over 4500 pieces. Additionally, it includes an AI service that allows users to create their own artwork using Google's Gemini platform.

Availability and Market Position

Although marketed for the Gallery TV, the Gallery+ app is available on all recent LG sets. Details about the price, release date, and ports have not been revealed yet. LG is not alone in the lifestyle TV market, with Hisense and TCL also launching their own lifestyle-focused TVs.

Controversy and Concerns

Lifestyle TVs have been a point of contention among movie enthusiasts, often prioritizing aesthetics over picture quality and specifications. For instance, the Hisense Canvas TV received low ratings due to its poor picture quality despite its stylish design. With its conservative specs, there are concerns about the LG Gallery TV's performance.
