Local News Going Extinct: Who's to Blame?

Newspapers are shutting down faster than you can say "breaking news. " In just one year, 127 newspapers vanished, leaving behind "news deserts" where people don't have access to local news. This trend isn't slowing down, either. Since 2005, the U. S. has lost over a third of its newspapers. Ouch! Why is this happening? Blame it on politics. Journalists are being attacked for their work, and the trust in news is fading fast. Presidential candidates are using tough words against the media, calling them "fake news" or even "the enemy of the people. " Yikes! Even big-name newspapers like The Washington Post and Los Angeles Times are feeling the heat. They've stopped giving endorsements in the upcoming election, making some readers upset. Some journalists have even quit in protest. Social media and intentional misinformation campaigns are making it hard to separate fact from fiction. Good reporters are checking the facts, but it's not easy when some politicians complain about it. All this bad stuff is hurting our democracy. Without fair and trusted news, how can we make informed decisions? It's like playing a game without knowing the rules.
