A Community in Shock as Counterterrorism Takes Over the Case

London’s Metropolitan Police have detained three additional suspects in connection with a deliberate fire that left four ambulances from a Jewish volunteer group in ruins. The blaze, which erupted on March 23 in Golders Green—a neighborhood with a prominent Jewish population—has been deemed an anti-Semitic hate crime by investigators. Counterterrorism units are now leading the probe.

The suspects, aged 20, 19, and 17, face charges for arson with intent to endanger lives. The youngest, holding dual British-Pakistani citizenship, has drawn particular attention. Two others, aged 45 and 47, were arrested earlier but released on bail.

A Fire of Hatred: Oxygen Tanks Explode, Windows Shatter

The blaze caused oxygen tanks inside the ambulances to detonate, sending a violent shockwave through the area. Windows in nearby apartments were shattered, and the volunteer emergency service Hatzola Northwest lost four of its critical vehicles.

Deliberate sabotage? Investigators seem to think so. A group claiming ties to Iran has taken responsibility, though officials have not yet classified the attack as terrorism. Authorities remain tight-lipped on further motives.

A Community on Edge as Police Step Up the Hunt

With the Jewish community deeply shaken, authorities have reassured the public that progress is being made. Senior officers acknowledged the understandable fear among locals but emphasized that arrests prove the investigation is gaining momentum.

The case remains active, with detectives hunting for additional accomplices. As the probe deepens, one question lingers: Was this a hate-motivated attack, or something more sinister?
