This reminder came during a cabinet meeting where Macron emphasized that Israel should respect UN decisions. Tensions between the two leaders have been rising, with Macron advocating for a halt on Israeli weapons exports to Gaza and Lebanon as a means to end conflicts.

France has long condemned Israeli attacks on UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon, including French troops. Macron’s statement focused on Resolution 1701, which allows only the Lebanese army and UN peacekeeping mission UNIFIL in southern Lebanon. Despite this, Netanyahu recently requested the UN to relocate these peacekeepers, claiming that Hezbollah uses them as human shields.
