Macy’s: Saying Goodbye to Some South Florida Stores

Some big news for shoppers in South Florida: a few Macy’s stores and Furniture Galleries are packing up and saying goodbye. Macy’s recently announced their plan to close around 150 stores across the country that aren’t performing well. In South Florida, this means a handful of stores are on the chopping block, like the Macy’s at the Boynton Beach Mall, and furniture stores in Pembroke Pines, Fort Lauderdale, and Miami. Even the Boca Raton Furniture Gallery is already shut down. Over in Tampa, Altamonte Springs, and Sarasota, some stores are also closing their doors.

But why the changes? Macy’s wants to pour more resources into the stores that are doing well. They’re calling it their “Bold New Chapter” strategy, which will improve about 350 stores and enhance both in-store and online shopping experiences. Tony Spring, the boss at Macy’s, Inc. , said that closing underperforming stores allows them to focus on the stores where customers are already enjoying better stuff and better service. So, what’s next? Clearance sales will start at Macy’s Backstage and Furniture Galleries in February.
