Magnetic Magic: A Fresh Twist on Extracting Pesticides from Herbal Infusions

Ever wondered how to safely extract pesticides from herbal teas like orange blossom, Aloysia Citrodora, and fennel? Scientists have come up with a nifty new way using a core-shell magnetic adsorbent. This tiny superhero, Cu-BTC@Fe3O4, teams up with a microextraction method to grab and hold pesticides tightly. First, experts confirmed the adsorbent's power with tools like magnets, microscopes, and X-rays. During the extraction process, they gave it a good shake and used a magnetic field to separate the adsorbent from the mixture. Iso-propanol and water helped pry the pesticides loose, and they zoomed into a gas chromatograph to measure them.

The method proved its worth with low errors (1. 0-8. 5%), good recoveries (39-93%), and super enrichment factors (195-475). It also showed off its accuracy with clear calibration curves (r2=0. 993-0. 998) and sensitive detection limits (0. 34-3. 0 μg L-1 for quantification and 1. 1-9. 9 μg L-1 for detection). It's safe for the environment, too, using friendly solvents and needing less time and materials.
