Starting June 8, South Bend is set to undergo a significant transformation as Main Street between Marion Street and LaSalle Avenue closes for nearly three weeks. The reason? A new underground water main pipe is being installed—a critical first step in the Madison Lifestyle District, a sweeping $24 million project designed to revitalize the area near Memorial Hospital.

While the closure may disrupt daily commutes, it’s a temporary setback. Traffic will be detoured through Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Marion Street, and Colfax Avenue, with LaSalle Avenue remaining open to ease access for businesses. Key landmarks like Scottish Rite, South Bend Civic Theatre, and First United Methodist Church will still be reachable via Lafayette Boulevard between Marion and Madison streets.
