Maize's Defense Response: How GGMOs Fight Cadmium Stress
USASaturday, January 18, 2025
The peroxidase activity differed based on the plant part, protein fractions, and treatments. Interestingly, GGMOs did not change the peroxidase amount but directed how it worked, suggesting a form of control after it was made (posttranslational regulation). This indicates that GGMOs might help plants rearrange their defenses against the metal stress.
The study also found changes in proteins crucial for defense responses, cell wall structure, and hormone activation. GGMOs seemed to reverse some of the protein imbalances caused by Cd, especially in leaves. This suggests that GGMOs may play a protective role, improving maize seedlings' vitality under metal stress.
