Malala Calls on Muslim Leaders to Tackle Gender Inequality

Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai has spoken out about the dire issue of gender inequality in Afghanistan, calling on Muslim leaders to take a stand. At a big event in Pakistan about educating girls in Muslim communities, Malala asked Muslim leaders to fight against what the Taliban is doing in Afghanistan. The Taliban are keeping teenage girls from going to school and stopping women from going to universities. Malala reminded everyone that an entire generation of girls will lose their future because of this. Malala shared her own experience as a survivor of a gunshot wound from the Taliban at age 15. She bravely campaigning for girls' education in Pakistan before the attack. She urged Muslim scholars to speak out and reject the strict laws that the Taliban has put in place.

At the summit, many important people from Muslim-majority countries were there. They were part of organizations like the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Muslim World League. Malala asked them to support making gender apartheid a serious crime under international law. Pakistan recently had some problems with the Afghan Taliban. But this didn't stop Malala from speaking her mind at the summit hosted by Pakistan. No other country has officially accepted the Taliban since they took control of Afghanistan in 2021. International diplomats say that recognizing the Taliban would depend on how they treat women in the future.
