A guy named Ryan Wesley Routh, who's accused of trying to shoot former President Donald Trump with a rifle at a Florida golf course, thinks the judge in his case should step down. This judge, Aileen Cannon, was randomly picked for Routh's case last month. Interestingly, she also decided to dismiss Trump's classified documents case recently. Routh's lawyers say Cannon might be biased because Trump, who could become president again, might nominate her to a higher court. They believe this connection might make people think Cannon is taking Trump's side. Earlier this year, Cannon ruled that the special counsel in the documents case, Jack Smith, wasn't appointed lawfully. Smith is fighting that decision. Routh's lawyers pointed out that Trump has publicly praised Cannon, even mentioning her at the Republican National Convention. They say all this could give the impression that Cannon isn't neutral. Routh was arrested after a Secret Service agent spotted him near Trump's Florida golf club in September. He's been charged with five counts, including trying to kill a presidential candidate, and has pleaded not guilty. The trial will be held at the federal courthouse in Fort Pierce, Florida, the same place where Trump's lawyers argued before Cannon.
