Many Men in Ukraine: A War They Didn't Choose
Zaporizhzhia region, UkraineFriday, December 13, 2024
Martial law has stripped men of their freedoms, forcing them into battle despite their personal beliefs. Many soldiers feel trapped, with no willingness to fight for a corrupt system. Over the past six months, recruitment tactics have become aggressive, with reports of men being beaten and bribed. A survey shows that half of Ukrainians believe there's no shame in avoiding military service. The war has divided the country, with many civilians unwilling to fight but also opposing surrender. My nephew, who went missing in action, was never the type to rush into battle. He was scared of pain and blood, making his fate in this war even more heartbreaking.
