Marcus Ericsson Wins First IndyCar Pole at Arlington

Arlington, Texas, USASunday, March 15, 2026

The 35‑year‑old Swedish driver Marcus Ericsson finally broke through after a tough season, grabbing the first pole of his IndyCar career at the new Java House Grand Prix in Arlington.

“I’ve been pissed‑off by my performance last year,” Ericsson said, “but the offseason grind is paying off.”

He set a single‑lap time of 1:34.3562 around the 2.73‑mile street circuit, earning a spot in the Fast Six and beating out four‑time champion Alex Palou, who qualified second with 1:34.8180.

The race will start at 11 a.m., but fans can watch the warm‑up from 8:50 to 9:10 a.m. on FOX Deportes, FOX One and the FOX Sports app.

Honda cars dominated the top seven spots in qualifying, with Ericsson’s No. 28 InPwr Honda leading the field.

Palou and Pato O’Ward praised Ericsson’s achievement, noting that his confidence has returned after a slow start to the season.

The event also featured a special interview with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Roger Penske, who discussed their partnership on the IndyCar weekend.
