Maryland Schools Under Fire Over Gender Rules
Maryland, USAThursday, June 25, 2026
The Maryland State Department of Education said it knows about the investigation and will keep up its support for all students while following the law. It offered no further comment while the complaint is reviewed.
Montgomery County Public Schools confirmed it has been notified of the probe and said it will comply with federal and state laws. The district also noted that no comment can be made until the Office for Civil Rights finishes its review.
Frederick County Public Schools called the investigation a “fact‑finding process. ” It said no fault has been found yet and that it will cooperate with the inquiry. The district warned against speculating on the outcome while the review is ongoing.
Prince George’s County Public Schools was asked for a response, but no reply came before the story was published.
The investigations raise questions about how schools balance inclusion and legal requirements, especially when students’ comfort and safety are involved. The outcome will determine whether current policies comply with federal anti‑discrimination law.
