Massachusetts Faces Possible Floods This Week

A flood watch has been issued for eleven Massachusetts counties, covering the period from Monday morning until Tuesday early afternoon. The alert warns that rain and melting snow could cause rivers, streams and low‑lying areas to overflow. Residents in the affected counties are urged to stay alert for any future warnings and to prepare if water levels rise. The National Weather Service explains that heavy runoff can quickly raise creek and stream levels. Poor drainage in towns and cities may also lead to flooding, especially where roads and sidewalks are already saturated. Those who live near water bodies or in valleys should keep an eye on weather updates and be ready to act. When the agency issues a flood watch, it means conditions are favorable for flooding but it is not certain that water will rise. A flood warning, however, signals that flooding is imminent or already happening and requires immediate action. An advisory indicates that floods may occur but are not expected to be severe; still, people should exercise caution.

Use headlights and be extra careful around large trucks, which may spray water that obscures visibility.
