Mayor Adams' Fate: A Double Standard?

Many people are calling for New York City Mayor Eric Adams to resign after he was charged with taking bribes and defrauding taxpayers. But Rev. Al Sharpton believes that Mayor Adams should not be removed from office. Sharpton thinks that Adams should be judged based on the outcome of his trial, just like other politicians who have been accused of wrongdoing. Sharpton pointed out that other politicians, like Senator Bob Menendez from New Jersey, were allowed to stay in office while they fought their cases in court. Sharpton believes that there should be one set of rules for everyone, regardless of their position or race.

Mayor Adams has denied any wrongdoing and has said that he will continue to serve as mayor. Many local black leaders, including NAACP president Hazel Dukes, have also come out in support of Adams. However, not everyone agrees with Sharpton and Adams. Black Lives Matter leaders and other protesters have been calling for Adams to resign, saying that his actions are a betrayal of the trust that the public has placed in him. Sharpton thinks that the accusations against Adams don't fit the man he knows. He has known Adams for many years and believes that he is not a career criminal.
