McDonald’s: Quarter Pounders Back Soon, E. coli Blamed Elsewhere

In a recent update, McDonald’s has declared that their Quarter Pounder beef patties are not the cause of the E. coli outbreak that has sadly resulted in one death and made nearly 75 people ill. This assertion comes directly from Cesar Pina, the fast-food chain’s Chief Supply Chain Officer. He’s confident that any tainted products have been removed from their system. The Colorado Department of Agriculture has also performed their own tests and found no traces of E. coli in McDonald’s brand fresh or frozen beef patties from various lots. They’ve concluded their testing and don’t anticipate further samples. This is good news for burger lovers, as McDonald’s plans to start distributing fresh Quarter Pounder supplies again. They expect these burgers to be back in all restaurants by next week.

Regulators had been looking into whether McDonald’s beef patties were at fault. However, the US Food and Drug Administration and the US Department of Agriculture have not yet provided any comment. E. coli can be eliminated when beef is cooked properly, which is why the Quarter Pounder is often served with raw onions—a feature that affected restaurants will temporarily do without. This outbreak serves as a reminder that while fast food is convenient, food safety is crucial.
