Measuring Pride: A New Tool for LGB Identity in China

In China, understanding and supporting LGB identities has taken a significant step forward. A new tool, the Chinese Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Positive Identity Measure (C-LGB-PIM), has been developed. This tool aims to assess the positive aspects of LGB identities among Chinese individuals. The process involved translating and adapting an existing measure into Standard Chinese. The goal was to create a reliable and valid instrument that reflects the unique cultural context of China. The development process followed strict guidelines. It included translation, back-translation, cultural adaptation, and pretesting. The final scale consists of 25 items spread across five dimensions. Additionally, the tool showed discriminant validity, with no significant links to distress indicators. This means that the tool does not confuse positive identity with negative outcomes.
