Get ready to meet Jakob Oftebro in a new show called "Vanguard. " This exciting drama tells the story of Swedish media mogul Jan Stenbeck. Viaplay Content Distribution is bringing this series to life, working with FLX and New8 Alliance. The show is directed by Goran Kapetanović and written by Alex Haridi, Lotta Eriksson, and Helene Lindholm. It's based on Per Andersson's biography of Stenbeck.
The series takes us back to Stenbeck's life in the 1970s in New York. At 35, he had a great job at Morgan Stanley and was living a glamorous life. Things changed when tragedy struck his family in Sweden, pushing him to take charge at Kinnevik, the family's industrial group. This is where his innovative ideas clashed with his siblings' more traditional approaches.
Stenbeck's vision led to big changes in Sweden's media and telecom world. He broke the telephone monopoly and launched TV3, but his rise to success wasn't easy. He faced personal struggles like loneliness and strained family ties.
"Vanguard" will premiere in 2025 across the Nordics. It will be shown on channels like SVT, NRK, and DR, with co-production partners like ZDF and NPO. Viaplay Content Distribution will handle global sales.
Vanda Rapti, EVP at Viaplay, thinks that Stenbeck's story shows how he changed media and telecom both in Sweden and worldwide. She's excited to represent the series globally. Erik Hultkvist from FLX says the show explores Stenbeck's life as a man of contrasts who shaped an era but faced personal challenges. Johanna Gårdare from SVT describes Stenbeck as a pioneer in media who drove change with his innovative ideas.
