Mental Health Attitudes Among Ambulance Staff: A Norwegian Perspective

Ambulance staff are often the first responders to mental health crises. However, their attitudes towards patients with mental health conditions can impact the care they provide. The Medical Condition Regard Scale (MCRS) measures these attitudes, but it hasn't been tested with ambulance staff or translated into Norwegian. This study aims to translate the MCRS into Norwegian, test it with ambulance staff, and assess its reliability. The goal is to understand how ambulance staff regard patients with psychosis and improve mental health care. Ambulance staff face mental health crises daily, making their attitudes crucial in providing effective care. The MCRS, originally designed to measure attitudes towards medical conditions, has never been used with ambulance staff. Before using it in Norway, the scale needs to be translated and validated.

The study involved translating the MCRS into Norwegian and testing it with ambulance staff. This process helps in understanding if the scale is reliable and relevant for this specific group. By exploring the psychometric properties of the Norwegian version, researchers can ensure it accurately measures attitudes. Understanding ambulance staff attitudes towards mental health conditions, particularly psychosis, is vital. Negative attitudes can hinder the quality of care provided.
