Mental Health Workers Unite to Beat Overload
North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, USATuesday, April 28, 2026
A group of counselors in North Huntingdon has opened a shared office to fight the heavy workload many therapists face.
They call it Mind & Body Collective, and it started last year after two partners bought a building on Clay Pike.
The space now hosts 14 professionals, from licensed counselors to speech therapists, all working together.
Why It Matters
- Mental‑health crisis: A recent report says 62 million adults have a mental illness, but almost half do not get treatment.
- Rural shortage: Rural areas especially lack enough workers, and the shortage is expected to rise by 2038.
- Therapist burnout: In private practices counselors often see ten clients a day and earn only about $20 an hour. They also pay a big share of their income to the practice, which can lead to burnout and high turnover.
