Meta Firings: When $25 Credits Go to Wine Glasses

Meta, the company behind Facebook and Instagram, recently gave the boot to over 20 employees in Los Angeles. Why? They were caught red-handed using food credits meant for meals to buy stuff like toothpaste and wine glasses. These credits were supposed to be used for food delivery services like Uber Eats and Grubhub, but some employees saw it as a chance to stock up on household items. The company has been offering daily credits worth $20 for breakfast and $25 for lunch and dinner to its staff. But some employees started pooling these credits together or using them to send food home. One former Meta employee, who made a cool $400,000 a year, admitted to using the credits to buy toothpaste and tea when they weren't eating at the office.

It seems like the employees who got fired had been abusing the system for a while. Those who only broke the rules a few times got away with just a warning. Meta didn't comment on the firings but did mention they're restructuring and laying off staff from teams like WhatsApp and Instagram. So, the question is, should companies be more strict about how employees use their perks? Or is it time to rethink these perks altogether?
