The food at Garland was a highlight, especially the hanger steak that kept running out over three nights. At Shanty, a turkey avocado sandwich with roasted red pepper and aioli became a repeat favorite.

The trip also highlighted the local beer scene, with Short’s Brewery in Bellaire providing a casual backdrop for parties and golf. The mix of weekend warriors, young professionals, and family members created an “adult summer camp” vibe that made every round feel special.

Weather fluctuations added a twist: early mornings stayed in the low‑50s, while by midweek temperatures climbed to 105°F and humidity spiked after a heavy rain week. Despite the heat, the group stayed engaged, even handling unexpected plumbing repairs that added a dash of real‑world hassle to an otherwise smooth getaway.
