Microsoft is elevating game development with its latest addition to DirectSR Preview. This new update brings support for AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) version 3. 1. What does this mean for developers and gamers? It opens up a world of potential for enhancing gaming visuals and performance. AMD's FSR 3. 1 is designed to make your games look sharper and run smoother, all without compromising on the visual quality. Microsoft has been busy beefing up its universal SR API, DirectSR, to support upscaling techniques from various vendors like AMD, Intel, and NVIDIA. Each of these companies has its own upscaling tech, such as NVIDIA's DLSS, Intel's XeSS, and AMD's FSR. By creating the DirectSR API, Microsoft has made it possible for developers to access all these upscalers in one place. The latest addition, AMD FSR 3. 1, is more stable and advanced than its predecessor FSR 2. 2. It offers improved features like better temporal stability, reduced flicker and shimmer, enhanced ghosting reduction, and better detail preservation. This means games will look clearer and run more smoothly on various GPUs. Developers can get started with DirectSR Preview from the latest Agility SDK 1. 715. 1-preview. They don't need AMD Adrenalin software, and the FSR 3. 1 is already integrated into DirectSR. However, for Intel or NVIDIA GPU users, updating to the latest graphics drivers is recommended to access all features. Microsoft initially collaborated with AMD to develop DirectSR, making it compatible with AMD GPUs right out of the box. But it didn't stop there; it also included support for Intel XeSS and NVIDIA DLSS SR from the beginning. This allows developers to switch between upscalers at runtime depending on the GPU in use.
