Minnesota Faces E. coli Outbreak After Ground Beef Recall

In Minnesota, at least 15 people have fallen ill due to E. coli poisoning, linked to a recent recall of over 167, 000 pounds of potentially contaminated ground beef. The recall was initiated by Detroit-based Wolverine Packing Co. after state agriculture officials reported multiple illnesses and detected E. coli O157:H7 in a sample of the meat. This strain of bacteria can lead to severe infections.

The illnesses occurred between November 2 and November 10, with symptoms including fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and signs of dehydration. Young children are particularly at risk, as the infection can cause serious kidney issues. As of now, no cases have been reported outside of Minnesota, and the investigation continues. E. coli is commonly found in various environments, such as water and food, and in the intestines of animals and people. While many types are harmless, some can cause serious illness. Quick symptoms after consuming contaminated food are a key indicator. Medical attention is crucial, especially for young children.
