In Minnesota, a federal judge has issued a strong rebuke against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Judge Patrick J. Schiltz accused the agency of violating nearly 100 court orders, a serious breach of judicial authority.

A Pattern of Disregard

ICE has been highly active in Minnesota, enforcing strict immigration policies. However, Judge Schiltz highlighted that the agency has repeatedly ignored court orders, raising concerns about accountability.

The judge considered holding the acting director of ICE, Todd Lyons, in contempt for these violations. Instead of immediate action, he issued a warning: if ICE continues to defy court orders, he may reconsider his stance.

The Extent of the Problem

Judge Schiltz provided a list of 96 court orders that ICE failed to follow, spanning 74 different cases. He believes the actual number of violations is even higher, as judges handling these cases were overwhelmed.

A Call for Respect of the Law

The judge emphasized that this issue transcends politics. He urged the public to recognize the importance of the rule of law, stating that all institutions must comply with judicial decisions.
