Minnesota's Big Freeze is Almost Here!

Hey, Minnesota! Are you ready to face the frost? Old Man Winter is gearing up for a big chill. So far, this winter hasn't been all snowy, but there have been some frigid days. Now, get ready, because a massive cold wave is heading your way. Paul Douglas, a well-known meteorologist from the Twin Cities, has been warning about this Arctic blast. He says it’s going to be super cold this weekend and into next week. He even joked on X (formerly Twitter), "There's nothing between Minnesota and the North Pole but a barbed wire fence! " The National Weather Service in the Twin Cities says after a bit of mild weather on Thursday and Friday, Minnesota is in for a big change. They’re expecting temperatures to drop really low, and wind chills might make it feel even colder. They’re saying it could be as cold as 25 below to 40 below zero on Saturday and Sunday nights!

Douglas also warned about dangerous wind chills and the risks of frostbite and hypothermia. But even with all this cold, Minnesota's record low is still pretty far off. The coldest it ever got was -60 °F way back in 1996 in Tower, Minnesota. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources explained that the air mass that caused this record low also made it really cold everywhere else in the state. Polar weather like this doesn't happen every day. As soon as this super cold spell ends, the weather will warm up a bit. So, bundle up, Minnesota! This is one cold wave you won’t want to miss!
