Mom Arrested for Newborn's Fate in Paper Bag 30 Years Ago

30 years after a newborn was found dead in a paper bag at a dumpsite, a mom from California has been arrested. Pamela Ferreyra, 60, was taken into custody after DNA tests confirmed she was the baby's mother. The infant, known as "Baby Garin," was discovered by a can collector in Monterey County back in 1994. Authorities found the baby on Garin Road, with "Garin" meaning protection, as noted by Monterey County Sheriff Tina Nieto. Sheriff Nieto emphasized the importance of protecting children and seeking justice for them, even after decades. The case has left many questions unanswered, such as the baby's exact age at the time of the incident and whether he was alive or already deceased when found.

The person who discovered the baby in the paper bag described the horrifying experience. Sheriff's Commander Andres Rosas underlined the emotional weight of such cases, stating that investigating crimes against children is incredibly challenging and never forgotten. Ferreyra, who works as an in-home health care provider and has multiple children, was arrested at her home on Thursday. She did not resist arrest and is currently being held on $1 million bail. Ferreyra is expected to be arraigned on Friday.
