Meanwhile, the prosecutor in the case, Jack Smith, had to cut out some information from his initial charges. A Supreme Court ruling said Trump can’t be criminally charged for some things he did while he was president.
Chutkan let Smith share all the supporting documents, but they weren’t seen by the public right away. This was to give Trump’s lawyers time to think about their options. Later, they wanted more time, until after the election, but the judge rejected this idea. She said Trump’s request could affect the election more than sharing the documents.
