More Snow on the Way: Brace for a Chilly Weekend

Winter is not done with us yet. More snow is on the way for Friday afternoon, and it's going to be brutally cold. The National Weather Service has warned that windchills could drop to 5 to 15 below zero on Friday night. This is not a joke. If you live in north central and northeast Illinois, or northwest Indiana, be prepared for additional snowfall late Friday afternoon. The good news? The snow risk is lower over the weekend. But don't think you're off the hook. Snow is still expected to continue in the area on Saturday, and frigid windchills will stick around on Sunday and Monday. So, if you were planning on a cozy weekend indoors, you might be in luck.

The winter storm started on Wednesday with 3 to 6 inches of snow expected in the Chicago area. This prompted a winter weather advisory. Officials have warned that accumulating snow is possible late Friday afternoon into the evening hours, especially along and north of I-80. But if you're south of I-80, be aware that light freezing rain or drizzle is possible late Friday night into Saturday morning. The coming week is expected to be frigid. Monday morning could be the coldest, with windchills between 15 to 25 below zero. So, if you have any outdoor plans, you might want to reconsider. Current conditions at O’Hare International Airport are partly cloudy at 15 degrees with a windchill of negative 9. Farther south at Midway Airport, conditions are the same at 18 degrees with a windchill of negative 8. This is not the time to be caught outside without proper gear.
