Morocco Builds Africa’s First Big Battery Plant with $114 Million Help

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a $110 million loan for Gotion Power Morocco to construct the continent’s first large‑scale lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery plant in the Rabat–Salé–Kénitra Free Trade Zone. Under a new African financing plan, the AfDB will also mobilize an additional $162 million from other partners, positioning itself as the chief orchestrator.
