Ever wondered how your favorite movie soundtracks come to life? Indonesian film producers are getting a big boost from Massive Music Entertainment, a company that tackles the tricky world of music licensing. They showed off their services at JAFF Market 2024, helping film crews navigate the complex process of music selection, licensing, and budgeting. Aghi Narottama, a record producer and music director, knows firsthand how tough licensing can be. Back in the early 2000s, he faced big challenges when working on projects with multiple songs. Reza Hidayat, the head of licensing at Massive Music Entertainment, believes music licensing should be a priority from the start. The company is pushing for music supervisors and directors to work together, making the job easier for producers. Veteran producer Tia Hasibuan agrees. She’s worked on hits like "A Copy of My Mind" and "Impetigore, " and sees the value in a music department that understands filmmakers’ visions. Massive Music Entertainment doesn’t stop at original scores. They also handle sample clearance and have expanded their catalog to include music from outside Indonesia. “Managing music in productions has never been easier, ” says Libby Davitri, the company’s music supervisor and licensing specialist. As Indonesia’s film industry grows, so does the need for efficient music management. Massive Music Entertainment’s services are filling this gap, making them a key player in the market. The company is already seeing success, working with Come and See Pictures on Joko Anwar’s upcoming film "The Siege at Thorn High, " set for release in 2025. The first JAFF Market runs alongside the Jogja-Netpac Asian Film Festival (JAFF) in Yogyakarta from Dec. 3-5.
