Musk's Team Gets Key Access to US Government Payment System
Sunday, February 2, 2025
Some big questions are coming out of this. Wyden is worried that Musk's strong business ties with China could be a major cybersecurity threat and a huge conflict of interest for the U. S.
Wyden said in a letter that his concern was about Musk’s extensive business operations in China, which could endanger U. S. cybersecurity.
The Biden administration previously accused China of hacking into several critical infrastructure systems, stealing data from high-ranking American officials, and breaching the Treasury’s own systems. Wyden pointed out that it's unusual to grant access to sensitive systems to someone with such significant business interests in China.
This is not the first time Musk has been in the spotlight for government access. In the last few months there have been changes in how the U. S. government operates to make room for the newest technologies.
It's important to think critically about this situation. Why would a private company be given control of a government system that handles so much sensitive information? How does this affect national security, especially with China involved? Is this a step towards future government reforms and why is this considered a "national security risk"?
